2008 Oyster Queen Leah Leto Says Goodbye

This year has been amazing, I have traveled around Louisiana representing you the citizens, my hometown, the Amite Oyster Festival, and the Amite oyster industry. Thank you all so much for that opportunity. While traveling, I realized how important each festival was to their town. I also realized that a festival would be nothing without the supportive members of the community. Thank you all for the royal treatment that you have shown me throughout the year.

I would like to thank the Amite Kiwanis for our festival t-shirts. I can't wait to wear mine for the festival. Also Murrell's for my beautiful gold oyster necklace, I will wear it with pride. My Oyster Board, you guys have given me my every wish, I had such a wonderful time representing our town at Queen of Queens. Thanks for my lovely supportive red roses. I will cherish my memories forever. 10 years ago my sister, Carrisa, was the Amite Oyster Queen, as some of you may remember. It was my priority to be the same wonderful representation for you as she was. I hope I have fulfilled my duty as your Amite Oyster Queen.

Good Luck to my furture successor, may you represent Amite with beauty and class. Take pride in representing yourself as the ambassador of Amite and our festival. May God bless you all! Hope to see you at the festival!

Oyster Queen Places In The Top 15

Amite's 2008 Oyster Queen Leah Leto competed in the Queen of Queens in Baton Rouge from February 20 - 23. She competed in the interview, evening gown and on stage portion of the event. She competed against 85 other young ladies in the Top 15. Leah is the daughter of Mark and Monta Leto of Amite. She is a 2007 graduate of Amite High School and is in her first year at Southeastern Louisiana University.

Good Principals Yield Great Students! Mrs. Lucille Morris, principal of Amite High School is always proud when one or more of her students shines. She displays this pride as she poses with Senior Leah Leto, who was recently named Queen of the Amite Oyster Festival.

Ms Leah has had a full plate this spring. From pageant, to her high school play to graduation. She has been a very busy young lady. She looks forward with great anticipation to promote the festival and the town as she travels throughout state gathering pearls of wisdom from the diversity of our culture, heritage, and traditions of this great state.

Miss Amite Oyster Megan Harvin
says Good-Bye

I can't believe it's been over a year since I was crowned Miss Amite Oyster Queen! Like they say: "Time flies when you're having fun...," The word "fun" cannot begin to describe this past year.  Sometimes, I truly felt like I was on top of the world, and the view was amazing. Now it is time to give another lucky girl a chance to see all I've seen. However, before I go, there are a few people I'd like to thank.

There are countless people who have made my reign incredible. If I've ever wanted to thank someone with every ounce of my heart, I'd have to thank God.

God blessed me with this amazing title and opened my eyes to an endless number of things. He showed me our great state of Louisiana at every angle; He helped me meet some of the greatest girls I'll ever encounter; and He showed me how rewarding it feels to represent such a wonderful town and festival. I will never be able to repay Him for the blessings he has given me.

I also want to thank my family. They have always been my biggest fans. I will never forget the way they have always made me feel like a queen (or like a princess I should say). I can't explain how much I love them and how much I'm loved back.

Mrs. Carol Brooke, chairman, and Mrs. Jeri Robertson, secretary/treasurer, make this whole festival possible. Along with the rest of the board, they both put a lot of time and hard work into planning and preparing all the festival events. Plus, they have put up with me all year long whether I was whining or goofing-off. I don't know how they got anything done when I was around.

Our festival is especially fortunate to have the board that it does. The Amite Oyster Board has always made me feel proud to be Miss Amite Oyster Queen. I want to thank them very much for considering moving the pageant after the festival, and for listening to my views on everything I wanted to make the festival better. Thanks to them, I was honored to be Miss Amite Oyster Queen of two festival.

Layla Gay also deserves thanks for being my marvelous director this year. Even though she didn't become director until just a few months ago, she has made up for the time I was without her. From decorating the float and cars for me to getting my crowned fixed when it was broken. I want to thank Layla for helping me in any way she could.

And last, but never least, I want to say thank you to the citizens of Amite. Our festival provides the food, rides, games, and entertainment, but it would be nothing if the people of Amite weren't there to enjoy it all.

Thank you for making the Amite Oyster Festival possible.
