Bruce & Mary Cutrer
To be crowned as
2010 Amite Oyster King and Pearl
on
March 28th

The Amite Oyster Board is proud to announce Tangipahoa Parish Fire District #1 Chief Bruce Cutrer and his lovely wife Mary as the 2010 Amite Oyster King and Pearl.

Both Bruce and Mary have lived in Amite for many years. Bruce was born and raised here and Mary moved here with her family at the age of five.

Bruce is the son of Edward Cutrer and Louise Murphy. He is a graduate of Amite High School. Bruce is the father of Bruce Cutrer II and Keeli Lyn Cutrer. Bruce has 43 years in the fire service. He has been the full-time fire chief of Amite for 25 years and the first full-time fire chief for this district. He was a charter member of the Communications District Board that helped develope the 911 service for Tangipahoa Parish. He is a lifetime member of the LA State Firemen's Association and the President of the Tangipahoa Parish Fire Chief's Associations since 1987.

Mary is the daughter of Patricia and the late Gus DiMiceli. She is a graduate of Oak Forest Academy. She is the mother of Misty Stevens Ackerman and Kayla Stevens. Mary has been employed with the LA Office of Community Service for 25 years. She is the co-founder of the Amite Area Bitty Basketball Association that began in 1989. Mary served as a member fo the Amite Oyster Board for two years.

Bruce and Mary are no strangers to the hard work and dedication hat is involved with the work of the Amite Oyster Board and the effort that goes into creating the festival each year. Bruce has been involved with the festival since it began 35 years ago and was the chairman for 12 years and is now the coordinator of the Laurie B. Richardson-Conway LeBleu Memorial Chili Cookoff. His mother, Louise Murphy, was the 1993 Pearl. Mary has been involved with thee festival for 10 years and states " I fondly remember attending the first Oyster Festival when was a teenager, it was held around the court house on Mulberry Street. It has come a long way since then and I am honored to be chosen as the 2010 Amite Oyster Pearl. Bruce wants all to know that "I am hummbled by the opportunity to serve as the 2010 Amite Oyster King and Mary and I are really looking forward to working with the community and local businesses to make the 2010 Amite Oyster Festival an unforgettable event. I want to tell everyone to hold on to their hats, because the 2010 festival is sure to be quite a production. And we want everybody to be rip-roaring, raring and ready to go!"
