Our 2008 Oyster Festival court: King & Pearl Chuck & Mary Ellen Brister; Miss Amite Oyster Queen Leah Leto: Teen Miss Amanda Robertson; Deb Miss Crystal Gonzalez; Jr Miss Reagen Riggins; Little Miss Ashlee Rae Stafford; and Petite Miss A'Reay Geter would like to invite you this year's Oyster Festivities. Amite's very own and newly elected, Representative John Bel Edwards is this year's Grand Marshall.
The Oyster Industry is celebrated all through out the month of March. This year the festivities will be kicked off March 7 with the Annual Scavenger Hunt. Other festivities include the Royalty Reception, Parade, Carnival with lots of rides, entertainment and netfulls of oysters. The final activity for the year is the Oyster Festival Pageant which is scheduled for March 29th.
Last year the Oyster Board and Royalty were honored and delighted to announce that the Amite Oyster Festival had been named one of the Top 20 Festivals in the Southeast United States for two
consecutive years. A huge thank you goes out to everyone who participated in contributing to the success of the festival. From the festival goers, vendors, parade entries, area merchants, area organizations, the Tangipahoa Parishes Sheriff''s Department and many, many more!

queen" by eating a raw oyster. On the right, Oyster Queen Places In The Top 15, Amite's 2008 Oyster Queen Leah Leto competed in the Queen of Queens in Baton Rouge from February 20 - 23. She competed in the interview, evening gown and on stage portion of the event. She competed against 85 other young ladies in the Top 15. Leah is the daughter of Mark and Monta Leto of Amite. She is a 2007 graduate of Amite High School and is in her first year at Southeastern Louisiana University. Ms. Leah will give up her crown on Saturday, March 29 to the future 2009 Oyster Queen.
